As parents and children get busier, and have access to endless waves of technology and information, it seems like so many of us are struggling to stay on top of it all. Weren't all of these modern conveniences created to make our lives simpler and easier to manage?
If you've been reading this blog for a while, you know that I need to just walk away from it all once in a while. My intentions were never to sit in front of a screen all day. Usually, I give you all a little heads up about my breaks, so I apologize that I just stopped writing for a few weeks. From now on, I'll try to post at least once a month or so.
As a mom, you're pulled in many unpredictable directions. And so, as I've been struggling to identify one area to focus on for a while now, I've come to realize that for me, that would be like trying to fit into a box I've been trying so hard to get out of!
We are all spread too thin these days. There never seems to be enough time to read with our kids, cook healthy meals, do the research necessary to make wise spending choices, be active in the community, maintain a social life, a marriage or demanding career...The list goes on and on.
And so, in honor of Thanksgiving next week, I invite you all to give yourselves a pat on the back for doing one of the hardest jobs in the world in the best way you know how. From one mom to another, I want to thank you for all that you do to keep your family happy, healthy, and whole.
My gift to you right now is a moment to close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. In through the nose, out through the mouth. Breathe in all the good things in your life and breathe out the tension and anxiety. Take in all your favorite colors, and exhale the ones you find irritating.
If you have time, listen to your favorite song (in your head, or with your iPod). Music works wonders. And if your kids are around, do a little dance with them! Just for a few moments.
May you find calm amidst the chaos, and joy in the tiniest of blessings, this holiday season.
