It's been a little hectic around here, and I seem to have gotten away from picture book recommendations, but I'm heading back there within a few days....
Today, I'd just like to share some fantastic reading materials.
I just started reading Big Ideas for Little Kids: Teaching Philosophy through Children's Literature, by Thomas E. Wartenberg. It's fascinating so far, and really reinforces what I've felt about children's books all along. Their value as teaching and learning tools should never be underestimated! I am so glad I found this recently released book through the Just One More Book! blog (if you like podcasts, check it out).
Okay, so if you're not a teacher or a librarian, you may not be interested in the above book; but the School Library Journal article, Ready, Set, Go! Storytime can help children (and parents) become kindergarten ready is a must-read for parents. Once again, the power of reading aloud children's literature is revealed...
