It was an absolutely beautiful day here in the Northeastern USA! It was 70 degrees and sunny. This photo of a playground reminds me of the many hours and days I spent with my children at the park. They're too old to go on the equipment anymore, but we still enjoy playing sports and having picnics at the park. Wherever you live, I hope you've been able to get out this week to enjoy some nice weather!
My favorite way to end a day full of outside activities is to read some great books together. Some of the funniest books can also be ones that spark the most meaningful discussions. An author of some very funny stories is Robert Munsch. I'll just mention a couple of his books.
The first one is Stephanie's Ponytail. It's the story of a girl who becomes annoyed when everyone starts copying her hairstyle. What child hasn't wanted to copy what someone else does at some point? It's a great conversation starter about why we should value our uniqueness, and why following the crowd may not be such a great idea. Please note that Amazon seems to currently only have a tiny version of this book in stock.
Other cute stories include Makeup Mess and Show and Tell. In Show and Tell, a boy brings his baby sister to school for show and tell, without telling his mother!
There are many other books by Robert Munsch. What I love about his books are the colorful illustrations, the humor, and the fact that they can spark many discussions about real life situations. It's important to note that some parents may feel that the characters in these books show disrespect for adults. To me, that's just another opportunity to start a conversation about your own values and beliefs with your children.
So, why not end a great day with a pajama read aloud of some very funny stories? Everyone needs a daily dose of laughter and hugs.
Do you know of any other funny books you'd like to share?
Have a humorous weekend!
