In honor of International Literacy Day, I'd like to share a few of the wonderful articles that surfaced on Twitter over the past couple of days:
What's the secret to teaching children how to read? If you read the following article, you'll see that as a parent, the single best thing you can do is to read aloud to your child from an early age, and as often as possible:

Picture books can have an impact on people of all ages. When his parents gave Jeff Goldstein the book, Horton Hears a Who, by Dr. Seuss, it was like they "threw a stone in a pond that day and the ripple seems destined to go on forever." He still shares the book with children, parents, and teachers. Read more about it in this wonderful article:

Do you think that if Jeff Goldstein had read Horton Hears a Who on the computer or eReader it would have been quite the same experience? I know that for me, it would not have even come close. As much as I love to read online, I do not feel that children should be reading this way ALL of the time. Read more about what's happening to libraries here:

Please let me know what you think of these articles. Oh, and if you missed President Obama's speech, you may find it here:
I hope you enjoyed reading these words as much as I did! Have a great week.
